Recently, Asda launched their latest party range, and I couldn’t help but be mesmerised by the puppy dog eyes of this cute little pug cake, named Pablo! It’s a no-brainer for me when it comes to fun food for my boys, Asda literally takes care of everything for busy Mums and Dads, at a pocket-patting price – if you are old like me you will remember the famous Asda TV move!

My youngest son, 3, asked why there was a doggy on the table when I set out our cake and bits and pieces when having a few friends with children around! Pablo has all the aesthetic trappings of a realistic canine, as far as a cake can, without the messy, slobbery bits. Pugs are all the rage at the moment, whether it be on clothes, bags, hoodies etc, so Asda have jumped on a very popular bandwagon with this edible chap.

The lovely people there very kindly sent us a huge party bag, stuffed full with games, party hats, balloons, poppers and of course, cake! We had great fun digging in, the kids loved the chocolate decoration on Puggy (as they named him, obviously Pablo didn’t rock it for them) and the inside was scrummy, filled with the fail-safe kids favourite buttercream and jam filling.

I like a cake which cuts easily and doesn’t leave mess all over the place (you know by now about my mild OCD!) and Pablo/Puggy didn’t disappoint. He is a queer shape to cut but easy to divide into little mouth sized pieces so this pleased me no end. Vanilla notes in the icing and soft, mouth watering sponge, I couldn’t have knocked up a better treat myself!

We opened the Twister and had plenty of upside-down, round about fun, burst loads of balloons and us grown ups held our ears while the children popped steamers galore! The thing I’ve always felt I could rely upon with Asda, is that their stores are so incredibly well stocked, I seldom have to nip to various different outlets to pick up what I need, it’s all there. Whether it be themed character parties or generic ones, they have it all covered. Definitely worth making an Asda dash for any occasion!
